Grower sentenced

A Masterton gardener was sentenced to community detention for growing a cannabis plant and receiving stolen property. Calvin Zabell, 30, appeared in Masterton District Court last week after police found a stolen jet ski and a cannabis plant in his house. Judge Andrew Nicholls said he was willing to treat Zabell’s offending as a stumble. “You used to be in front of this court a lot, but you’ve made a lot of improvements in the last few years including starting your gardening business,” he said. Zabell was sentenced to four months of community detention with a curfew from 7pm-7am.

Properties on Churchill Cr and Kowhai Gr in Featherston had no water from 11.20am-1.20pm. Properties on Strasbourge St in Martinborough were without water from 11.45am-1.45pm.
