SH2 repairs

Reports were received last week of melting road surface coming up in clumps on SH2, southbound, just before Clareville. Waka Kotahi roading and project engineers continue to investigate the causes of last week’s road surface melting but work has already begun to repair the road surface.

Dive pool closed

The dive pool at Masterton’s Trust House Recreation Centre will be closed for a week, starting Monday, December 4, and reopening on Monday, December 11. The closure is to allow the pool to be emptied for maintenance before the Christmas holidays and to address the water loss that has been occurring. Masterton District Council community facilities and activities manager Corin Haines said the work is scheduled to ensure all outdoor pools are operational over the holiday season. The two other outdoor pools will remain open during the work.

Fighting stances

A group of males fighting was reported to police at about 11pm on Wednesday night. A Police spokesperson said no medical attention was required based on the information they had. One person was taken into custody but no charges have been laid yet.

Roadworks on

Remutaka Hill

A reminder that roadworks continue on SH2 between Featherston and Kaitoke. Due to scheduled maintenance, there are 24/7 lane closures and stop/go traffic management in this area. Roadworks have temporary traffic signals with 30km/h speed restrictions in place until further notice. People might be asked to stop on request and should expect delays through the area.

Library sale and

holiday hours

The Masterton Library is currently having a book sale, which finishes tomorrow. A bag of books costs $5, and a box $10. It has also advertised its holiday hours. On December 22, the library will close at 12pm. Between Saturday, December 23 and Tuesday, January 2, it will be closed, reopening at 9.30 am on 3 January. The returns slot will be closed over the holiday period, and borrowers are asked to hold onto their books until the library reopens. No overdue fees will be charged.
