Consent delay

Greater Wellington Regional Council [GWRC] has agreed for the new resource consent application for the Featherston wastewater treatment plant to be lodged in March. The consent was due to be lodged in January 2023. However, following consultation with the regional council, it will be lodged at the end of March to allow for further summer monitoring and testing of groundwater and further co-design of the wetland that is proposed as part of the consent.

Expect delays

Traffic control will be in place from Monday in some of Masterton’s popular rural routes to deal with impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle. Masterton District Council said crews would be clearing slips, drains, culverts, and trees on Masterton-Castlepoint Rd at the Tinui Valley Rd intersection. Works would also be done over a 7.2km area on Tinui Valley Rd, and on Masterton-Castlepoint Rd from Mclaughlin Drive to Castlepoint. Council asked that people drive carefully in these areas and adhere to stop/go signs. Delays are expected.

Pool project

Less than a week remains for the South Wairarapa community to support Carterton Swimming Club’s Indoor Pool Project on Givealittle. To date, $8921 has been raised. The Carterton indoor pool provides a year-round swimming venue, however, a 2019 facilities condition report found that the pool building had significant structural and environmental issues which needed to be fixed. The Carterton Swimming Club is using the raised funds to initiate the design stage and go to tender to secure an architect to upgrade the facility. For more information, visit the Carterton Indoor Pool Project Facebook group.

Remutaka Hill will be closed for five nights from tomorrow to Thursday, from 9pm to 4am for essential maintenance. Carterton to Masterton will have stop/go traffic control at various locations from tomorrow to Thursday nights 7pm to 6am for safety improvement project works. Opaki near Windgate Rd will have stop/go traffic controls tomorrow and Monday nights from 7pm to 6am for road repairs with a water-cutting machine.
