Clocked out

Carterton District Council’s clock tower was stopped yesterday, pausing time eternally at 10.45am. The council said they had logged a service request, and hoped “clocky would be back ticking and singing again shortly”.

Burnt coffee

Emergency services responded to reports of a coffee machine on fire at Neighbourhood Coffee House in Martinborough at 11.30am yesterday. Fire crews from Martinborough and Featherston raced to the scene, but the fire was put out before they arrived. A Fire and Emergency [Fenz] spokesperson said it was a minor fire started because of an electrical fault. They said there was no damage to the building, only to the machine itself.

Car crashes

Police responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on Ponatahi Rd, Carterton District, at 2.50 pm yesterday. Police said the vehicle crashed into a ditch. A tow truck was called to remove the vehicle. Emergency services also responded to a two-vehicle crash in Featherston shortly before 6pm on Wednesday. A Fenz spokesperson said it was a minor two-vehicle crash on the intersection of Wakefield St and Fox St caused by one vehicle failing to give way. No injuries were reported.

Storm recovery

Masterton District Council have roadworks planned tomorrow and the next two Saturdays as part of continued storm recovery works. The following dates and locations have been added to keep on track with the programme because continued bad weather has slowed progress. Traffic flow will be managed by either traffic lights or manual traffic controllers. The following dates are also weather dependent. The works tomorrow are between 7am-4pm, on Whangaehu Valley Rd and Te Ore Ore – Bideford Rd. On August 26 and September 2, works between 7am and 4pm are on Te Ore Ore-Bideford Rd and Masterton Castlepoint Rd.
