Police seek park
assault info
Police are urging the public to report anti-social behaviour after an assault in Masterton’s Queen Elizabeth Park on Monday. After being made aware of the incident, “Police attended and made inquiries but have not yet located the offender. Inquiries are ongoing,” a spokesperson said. Police confirmed all those involved in the altercation were youths. Offending by young people has intermittently plagued the area, with the nearby skatepark on Memorial Dr earning a reputation as a hotbed for bad behaviour since it opened in February last year, resulting in a community group initiative supported by Masterton District Council [MDC] installing a kaitiaki [guardian] at the venue during the summer holidays to provide supervision. MDC said it was not aware of Monday’s incident. Police said officers would maintain a visible presence and regularly patrol the area. “We urge people to report any incidents immediately. We take reports of this nature very seriously.”

Call out was
a cockroach
Police responding to a burglary in Masterton have discovered a six-legged culprit. After receiving a report of a house on Johnston St being broken into after motion-sensor cameras were activated shortly after 10.30pm on Monday, nothing of concern was located, a police spokesperson said. “Police attended, and it looks like the cameras activated due to a cockroach walking across the camera.”
