Cancer Society annual event
The annual public lecture jointly hosted by the Wairarapa Times-Age and The Cancer Society will this year focus on radiation treatment for prostate cancer. It is on tomorrow evening at the Copthorne Solway Park in Masterton. Dr. Nichola Naidoo will be discussing the role of radiation treatment versus surgery for early prostate cancer. Dr. Naidoo is clinical leader of the radiation oncology department in Wellington and is a lecturer at the University of Otago. The event is free to attend and will be from 5.30-7.30pm. Long Term Plan
A workshop called ‘Long Term Plan – Next Steps’ is being held today by South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC]. Its purpose is to understand community aspirations and the ways in which SWDC should be responding to those. It will be outcomes-focused and explore activities that could help achieve those outcomes in priority order. It is expected to cover SWDC 2024–34 LTP outcomes. An agenda for the event was not available online late yesterday afternoon. The workshop is today from 1.30-5pm in the Supper Room at the Waihinga Centre in Martinborough.
Lake Ferry crash
Emergency services responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on Lake Ferry Road, South Wairarapa, at around 6.25am yesterday. A spokesperson for police told the Times-Age that three people were transported to Hospital with moderate-minor injuries. The spokesperson confirmed that police are making enquiries into the circumstances of the crash.
Problem solved
Masterton Police responded to reports of a dispute over a tenancy agreement, at 5.45pm on Monday. A police spokesperson said that advice was given and the matter was resolved.
Powerlines down
Emergency services responded to reports of powerlines down on Carterton’s High St at 1.40pm yesterday. Police said it appeared that the lines came down after being hit by a truck. A fire and emergency spokesperson said staff from Powerco arrived quickly, and traffic cleared up rapidly once the issue was resolved.
