I don’t use too much petrol myself, but it will impact greatly on people already struggling with rent and rates. The government has spent a lot on covid and on climate change. We’ve got to pay for it some way or another, but it’s a bloody pain.

Well, I’ve stopped driving to work in Wellington and switched to taking the train. The train is dead straight, and the people are nice. Just using my car around town, the tank will last me a month so it’s okay.

I’ve bought down all of my containers, about 80 litres, for the generator and all that. I might as well take advantage while I can. This tax break had to stop at some time. It must have been an awful lot of dollars spent on the subsidy so far. It will really affect freight, which will cause a ripple through inflation.

It’s going to hugely affect me. I live half an hour out of town, and 29c per litre will make a big difference to your pay packet, that’s for sure. I live 30 minutes out of town, so by driving to work for a week, I’m going to pretty much be spending a whole day’s wages on petrol just to get there. I understand why the government is doing it, but we’ve all got to make ends meet. I’ll be back with my containers tomorrow.

I guess we got a year of fuel discounts. It is what it is. You go to the supermarket; now, it costs $100; you go to the vet, it costs $600. Welcome to life. We’ve gone through some pretty bad times with covid and all, but what can you do about it?
