Celebrating 2022’s success

Rathkeale College

Rathkeale College congratulated senior students honoured for academic, sporting, and cultural achievements at this year’s prizegiving.

Students, prize winners, staff, and family attended the end-of-year ceremony.

Andrew Taylor was named the 2022 Rathkeale College Dux Litterarum and was awarded the Te Rangitamu Trophy for the senior student who epitomises the qualities of a good Rathkeale man.

Taylor also won the Cooper Cup for working selflessly for the school and the SJ Snell Cup for the best all-around senior sportsman.

Jack Sorrell was named Proxime Accessit and won the Morris Cup for all-around contribution.

Hamish Shaw was presented the Brett Service Cup for outstanding service and contribution to the College.

Rathkeale introduced a new award this year, The Ruamahanga Restoration Trust Award, a conservation award for environmental leadership.

The inaugural winner was the college trapping club comprising Jack Buckley, Edward Harris, William Summerfield, Jock Bourke, and Hamish Shaw.

Jock Bourke won the GM Nicholls Cup for recording the outstanding sporting achievement of the year.

Liam Gale was first in year 12, Jasper Kokx was first in Year 11, Charles Lynn was first in year 10, and George Farman was first in year 9.

Principal Martin O’Grady said the year’s second half had been fantastic, as things return to normal after the covid-19 pandemic with families able to attend events.

“The prizegiving and carol service were both lovely; they really topped the year.

“These year 13s have been a good group; they’ve been incredibly resilient through the covid years, which have been their senior years at school,” Mr O’Grady said.
