An independent chair and an independent community representative for Masterton District Council’s Civic Facility Working Group have been appointed.
This follows a 6-4 council decision at the end of last month to disestablish the Civic Facility Project Committee and establish
the working group.
The working group would supervise the civic facility work programme until the local government elections in October.
Ian Collier, JP, has been named as chair, and Rachael Dean, MNZM, as an independent community representative, with a second representative yet to be appointed.
Two iwi representatives would also be appointed shortly.
Ian Collier, former regional affairs manager for Air New Zealand, has held several senior management positions across a number of industries and is now focused on governance and contract roles within regional development, community-based projects, and leadership coaching.
He is currently a member of the Hood Strategic Advisory Group.
Rachael Dean – current independent chair of the Audit and Risk Committee for Westland District Council – is a governance, finance, risk, and management specialist who brings with her extensive board and governance experience.
She became a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to governance and the community.
Both have residences in Masterton.
Masterton District Council chief executive David Hopman said the working group would review the rationale for the progression of the project from 2016 to the current state so the new council could make informed decisions about the next steps.
The inaugural meeting of the Civic Facility Working Group will take place following the confirmation of the second independent member. – NZLDR
