Woman smashes wrong car with axe

A Featherston woman seeking revenge on a relative took to a car with an axe, causing “extensive” damage, police say.

Only problem? She got the wrong car.

Police were called to Revans St in Featherston on Tuesday evening, where they arrested a 51-year-old woman.

Senior Sergeant Mike Sutton said the woman believed the car belonged to a family member whom she held responsible for a recent house fire.

“She smashed it up targeting that family member, but unfortunately that car had nothing to do with that address,” Mr Sutton said.

“It was parked there because it had broken down and the owner of the car was in the process of getting it moved and fixed.”

Mr Sutton said the car had been “extensively damaged” by the axe.

The woman has been charged with wilful damage and is expected to appear in court this week.

Police say the fire at a Revans St property on Monday night was not suspicious.
