Nine-year-old fox terrier Max is back home in Featherston with his owner Dick Smith after being stolen along with Smith’s vehicle last week.

Smith’s vehicle has also been found.

But Max is “not himself”, is quiet, and put off his food, Smith said.

“He’s not barking at vehicles he doesn’t know or rushing out to greet the cars he does know,” Smith said on Friday.

“He seems to be hiding out the back a bit.”

Smith said his family was tired and he was enjoying cuddling up with Max to reduce the trauma for the dog and for him to have a rest.

Over the weekend, Smith met a friend he was with in the Vietnam War.

“I have the energy and focus back now.

“I haven’t seen my friend for 50 years and he knows all about what’s happened with Max so we are going down to the RSA for a beer.”

  1. Hi Karen,
I have lost Dick’s mobile number and have been trying to contact him about RSA business. Can you provide?
    Many thanks,
Dave Partner ( the bloke at the back of the photo).
