Time is running out for dogs at the Masterton pound if they haven’t found a new home by the end of the week.
Four homeless puppies, all under 11-months old, have been saved and are being taken care of by the Masterton District Council until they are rehomed. But not all are lucky enough to be rescued.
Kylie Tobin, a support administratorfor Masterton District Council said on average they rehome one dog every fortnight.
“It’s sad as they are someone’s dog, all are unregistered or no chips, nothing,’ she said.
“These dogs are usually called in by people saying that they’ve found a roaming dog, then no one claims them.”
To adopt a puppy, the council only ask the pet is micro-chipped and has a full-year registration.
Anyone wanting to adopt a puppy, call the Masterton District Council by the end of the week.
Why don’t they insist on desexing of the dog’s they adopt out? Sure, registration and ‘chipping is great, but it would save more pups being in the pound if they insisted on desexing, or better still desexing before rehoming!
Agree Juliet. Wellington Animal Services do this very well. No reason why it couldn’t work in all Wairarapa animal control areas
