The trading name Lands Trust Masterton is now a thing of the past.
At its first board meeting since the elections yesterday afternoon the trust’s trading name was changed back to Masterton Trust Lands Trust.
The name had been changed in 2012 to simplify “what was sometimes a confusing name”.
Board member Rick Long put forward the motion as a late item, saying the name Lands Trust Masterton had “never caught on”.
“Lands Trust Masterton doesn’t roll off the tongue and it just doesn’t sound right.”
He said using the word “Trust” in a trading name gave “instant credibility”.
“We used to be Trust Lands Trust, which threw trust in there twice, so I mean you can’t get a better name than that.”
Trust manager Andrew Croskery joked, “Yes, we’ll be almost twice as good now”.
The motion was seconded by Sandy Ryan, with Karl Taucher opposed.
“I think before we actually make the change, if we do, it should be investigated again and considered very carefully before we act,” Mr Taucher said.
“Otherwise we could get into a situation where we chop and change every five years.”
It was the first board meeting with new trustees Frazer Mailman and Bex Johnson seated around the table.
Leanne Southey was re-elected chairperson, and Karl Taucher was re-elected as deputy chairman, both unopposed.
