Nigel Latta will share his thoughts on teenagers and road safety at a free event in Masterton next week.
The well-known television personality will perform ‘Teen Driving and Surviving the Teenage Years’ at Wairarapa College on Tuesday.
Mr Latta is an author, who was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in for his services as a psychologist.
He has hosted television shows Beyond The Darklands, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Teenagers, The Politically Incorrect Parenting Show and The Hard Stuff.
The Wairarapa Road Safety Council is sponsoring his visit to the region.
Wairarapa Road Safety Council manager Bruce Pauling said it was “a real coup” securing Mr Latta.
“He has become a New Zealand icon around his insights into our culture and especially raising children.
“Every parent of a teen or soon to be teen should come and listen to Nigel’s down to earth, witty and common sense approach to understanding what is happening in their teens’ heads generally and when they get behind the wheel.”
Wairarapa’s teen crash rates had been of high concern for years, Mr Pauling said.
“Starting to drive is the most dangerous thing your teen will ever do so it makes sense to have some strategies, humour and understanding to keep them safe.”
He said the show was “one of a raft of initiatives aimed at reducing the trauma of crashes involving our youth”.
As well as keeping teenagers safe on roads, Mr Latta will cover off the more general aspects of the difficulties of raising teenagers in an increasingly complicated world.
To remove any transport barriers keeping parents and students from attending the show, Mr Pauling has arranged free return buses from Martinborough, Featherston and Carterton.
To book a seat people should call Tranzit Coachlines on (06) 3706600.
The show will run from 7pm to 9.30pm.
On the night an optional koha can be made to Wairarapa SADD, which is hosting the event.
