Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre raked in a record-breaking $18,600 at its annual fundraiser last month.

Organisers said it was the centre’s most successful fundraising dinner since it started 11 years ago.

The “Love Pukaha” themed fundraiser sold over 250 tickets.

Each year, the proceeds from the fundraising dinner goes towards Pukaha’s forest restoration programme.

The evening on April 20 at Copthorne Solway, included a dinner, charity auction, mystery envelopes, raffle prizes and entertainment by local band, Rose Red, and the evening’s emcee Ruud Kleinpaste, aka ‘The Bugman’.

Pukaha general manager Emily Court was “thrilled” by the community’s response to help raise funds for their restoration programme.

“It is great to know that the whole community from Wellington to Tararua and Manawatu is behind us and want to support conservation efforts at Pukaha.

“Achieving great outcomes for our natural environment is a team effort – we are all in this together,” she said.
