altercation

Police responded to reports of an argument at the Masterton New World on Tuesday at around 3.55pm. A police spokesperson said one female attacked another female, resulting in bruises, and the Police Safety Team is following up with the matter. New World declined to comment.

Car crash

Police responded to a “nose to tail” collision between two vehicles on Para Rd in Carterton District at around 8.15am yesterday. No injuries were reported, and the road was not blocked.

Volunteer expo

South Wairarapa District Council is holding an expo for people to learn about volunteering opportunities on Saturday, June 8, at the Greytown Town Centre from 10am to 1pm.

Library shut

Greytown Library will be closed on Saturday, June 8, due to staff shortages, although other Wairarapa libraries, online services, and book drops remain available. For more information, visit the wls.org.nz website.

Fire tips

After three concurrent fires in Canterbury last week, in addition to more fires further south, Fire and Emergency New Zealand is urging people to keep safe when lighting outdoor fires by following these key tips: keep your burn pile at least 10 metres away from other combustible materials; monitor the fire for the duration of the burn; be ready to respond to changing weather or fire behaviours; keep something to extinguish the fire nearby; ensure your fire is completely extinguished; and monitor old burn piles.
