Three young people were arrested and charged after a burglary early on Friday morning.
Police responded to reports at 12.30am of a burglary at a commercial premises on High St North in Carterton.
Soon afterwards, a vehicle of interest was seen on High St South,” Wairarapa area response manager Senior Sergeant Gareth Barnes told the Times-Age.
“Police activated red and blue lights, but the vehicle failed to stop” until it reached Featherston, where “the alleged offenders exited the vehicle on Watt St in Featherston and fled on foot”.
“Police tracked them to an address nearby, where they were arrested just before 1am, still in possession of goods stolen from burglaries earlier.”
Three teenage males have been charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle as well two counts of burglary.
They appeared in youth court yesterday while a fourth person who was an occupant of the vehicle has been referred to youth services, Barnes said.
A police spokesperson confirmed that one of the teens is due to reappear in Wellington Youth Court on May 21, the second to appear in Hutt Valley Youth Court on May 22, and the third to appear in Hutt Valley Youth Court on May 23.
“I’m proud that the team were able to apprehend the alleged offenders,” Wairarapa acting area commander Richard Wilson said.
The Times-Age contacted the owner of the commercial premises that was burgled, but they declined to comment.
