It’s high time for your weekend

Playing a Club Wairarapa tonight is Money For Old Rope a Wellington four-piece band that covers classic rock and pop from New Zealand and around the world.

They will cover songs from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artists like The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Billy Joel. Whatman Restaurant is open from 5.30pm.

    Tonight from 7.30pm to 11.30pm, at Club Wairarapa, 20 Essex Street, Masterton. Club members are free, $5 door charge for non-members [door sales only].

Big band

Tomorrow night at the Carterton Events Centre, Wellington crooner Steve Carlin and The Rodger Fox Big Band are teaming up to deliver “Hits of the Rat Pack” – a musical compilation covering jazz swing artists Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and co.

There will be a 17-piece big band, accompanied by Steve Carlin, recreating the Rat Pack’s hey-day through hits such as ‘New York, New York’, ‘Mack the Knife’, ‘Fly Me to the Moon’, and more.

Duck hunting contest

To mark the open season, the Eketāhuna Inn is hosting a duck shooting season open weekend weigh-in competition on Saturday and Sunday, with prizes and trophies up for grabs for winners of each category.

There is also a batons-up table with leftover spot prizes [$2 a ticket on the night.] All entrants aged 16 years and over need to produce a firearms license.

    Saturday weigh-in is 12pm to 4pm, while Sunday weigh-in is 11am to 4pm, and prize giving is Sunday at 6pm at the Eketāhuna Inn, 42 Main St, Eketāhuna. Registration is $25 for 16 years and over and $15 for 15 years and under. Registration forms are available from the inn, or you can register over the phone via 06 375 8000 or 027 375 8946.

High Tea

On Sunday, Wharekauhau Country Estate is inviting guests and day visitors to a classic high tea afternoon of “refined elegance” with opulent “culinary delights”. Stepping onto the estate, patrons are welcomed with a glass of French champagne and invited to the game’s lawn, with croquet and petanque setting the stage for a leisurely afternoon.

The high tea experience unfolds with a selection of sweet and savoury afternoon tea favourites in the elegant main dining room. The cuisine is complemented by an assortment of loose-leaf teas.

The first seating commences at 1.30pm, with the last seating at 3pm. The estate has advised making reservations 72 hours in advance to secure a place. The event is held from March to December on the first Sunday of every month.
