Masterton District Council [MDC] is holding a town-hall style meeting to further outline options for Masterton’s Town Hall building, library and archive on Wednesday, April 24 at Waiata House.
The options are among the major decisions in MDC’s Long-Term Plan consultation document, which has already attracted more than 70 submissions.
Deputy Mayor Bex Johnson – who chairs the Civic Facility Project Advisory Group – said the meeting will be a chance to answer questions on the issue.
“We’ll be focusing on the town hall, and library and archive, at the meeting,” she said.
“We recognise this is a big decision for the community and want to allow people an opportunity to have the options presented in more detail if that would be useful,” she said.
“We want people to understand the options and cost implications to encourage as many submissions as possible before the deadline of 10am on Monday, May 6.”
As previously reported, the first option is to demolish the town hall and municipal buildings and retain Waiata House and Queen St premises [estimated cost: $3.35 million].
The second option, costing $38.67m, is to demolish the town hall and municipal buildings, build a new town hall, and expand Waiata House.
The third option involves demolishing the town hall, building a new town hall, and refurbishing the municipal building [estimated cost: $45.3 million].
The town hall meeting will run from 5.30-7pm on Wednesday 24 April at Waiata House, 27 Lincoln Road.
