Police callouts

Police received reports of a person inhaling a substance on Church St, Masterton, around 12pm on Tuesday; police arrived and spoke to the person. Police were notified of an alleged burglary on Bentley St in Masterton, around 6.20pm on Tuesday; police spoke to the property’s occupants and are making enquiries. Police also responded a verbal dispute on Tauherenikau Racecourse Rd north of Featherston at around 4pm on Tuesday; police spoke to all parties involved.

Library closed

The Featherston and Greytown Libraries will be closed tomorrow so staff can attend a training session. More info about library times can be found on the

Reminder of
rates deadline

Tararua District Council [TDC] are advising people that the rates rebate deadline for the 2023-2024 financial year is fast approaching. All applications must be made by June 30 and if you haven’t returned your application then you should get in contact with TDC by email at [email protected] or call 06 374 4080 [south], 06 376 0110 [north]. Headcount

In the article, “Funding shortfall for homeless shelter” published on June 11, the Times-Age reported the emergency shelter, Kim’s Way, in Masterton will accommodate up to 15 people. A shelter representative has since clarified that the maximum number that will be accommodated is 10.

Right dates

Yesterday’s Times-Age stated that an NZ Army Reserve training exercise will be taking place in Featherston this weekend. This is not the case – instead, it will be held in the town during the weekend of July 12-14.

Little latch on

Breastfeeding Wairarapa is hosting a little latch on session today from 10-11am at Hessey House, 21 Worksop Road, Masterton. Mums are invited to come along to socialise with others and can ask any questions about feeding their baby or toddler. Morning tea will not be supplied, but there will be chocolate biscuits. People are advised that if they cannot make the session, they can come along any other Thursday morning. If anyone needs one-on-one support, they are encouraged to approach the service directly.
