Bridge opening

NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance have confirmed State Highway 53 Tauwharenīkau Bridge repairs are complete, allowing the highway and bridge to reopen. The bridge and section of the state highway are due to be fully open this evening as work crews have managed to finish the project ahead of schedule. Moroa Rd will also be open to local road traffic from tomorrow evening. Residents and road users can check the highway’s status on nzta.govt.nz [‘Highway Conditions – Wellington’].

Closure stays

Due to weather conditions and unforeseen ground conditions within the worksite, the southbound closure of High St SH2 from Kent St to Andersons Line will remain in place over this weekend. Southbound traffic will be detoured via Somerset Rd, Carters Line, Park Rd and back onto SH2. The road remains open to northbound traffic. Motorists are asked to adhere to the temporary speed limits in place.

Journo award

Longstanding Wairarapa-based semi-retired journalist, businessman, and farmer Alan Emerson has been named the 2024 Ravensdown Agricultural Communicator of the Year this week. Judged by the New Zealand Guild of Agricultural Journalists and Communicators, the announcement was made at the National Fieldays. The award acknowledges Emerson’s lengthy career and extensive input into the agricultural sector. Emerson contributes a regular column in the Times-Age.

Food event full

Organisers of an event this weekend that was featured in the Times-Age yesterday wish to advise readers that the Waimeha Kai Festival is unable to accommodate any more entries, which had to be pre-registered, and members of the public will not be able to attend due to it being now being fully subscribed.

Carterton assault

One person received minor injuries in an assault on Tyne Street in Carterton at around 8:50am yesterday. Police are making enquiries into the matter.

Noise complaint

Police received a report of a person playing music loudly in a vehicle in Masterton on Kirton St on Thursday at around 8pm. Police attended and spoke to the person.
