Pools closing

This weekend will be the last opportunity to swim at outdoor pools in Martinborough, Greytown, and Featherston this season. The outdoor pools are expected to reopen again at the start of the summer season.

Toxic algae
amber alert

Masterton District Council [MDC] has confirmed that it continues to test water samples at Henley Lake and that recent tests still show cyanobacteria [toxic algae] is present. Visitors to the lake should avoid contact with the lake water, especially children, pregnant women, older people, and dogs. The toxic algae alert level remains ‘amber’, and updates will be provided when available.

SWDC grants

South Wairarapa District Council [SWDC] community and youth grant applications are open until March 27. Community organisations, marae committees, groups, or individuals with a “common purpose that benefits the South Wairarapa” are eligible to apply for the grant. A range of other grants are still open for applications, including the Martinborough Community Board Fund, Rural Travel Fund, Māori Standing Committee Fund, Featherston Community Board Fund, and the Greytown Community Board Fund. Further information on the grants available can be found on the SWDC website at swdc.govt.nz.

Weekend
weather

MetService predicts a mild weekend as the autumnal weather pattern kicks off. Morning showers today are expected to become isolated before finer weather. Southwesterly winds should ease in the afternoon and become northwesterly in the early evening. Tomorrow should be mainly fine with some cloud and the chance of a shower near the Tararua District. Northerly winds should turn westerly in the mid-morning.

Hill closure

A reminder that the Remutaka Hill will have nightly closures this coming week, starting tomorrow and continuing through to Thursday night. The Hill will be closed from 9pm to 4am and escorted crossings are available if booked in advance through the NZTA website. This is to allow for maintenance and safety improvement work on the hill.
