A third electric vehicle [EV] charging site in Wairarapa is expected to be completed by mid-2024.
ChargeNet, New Zealand’s only nationwide EV-charging network, has announced it will be installing new charging sites that will be “powered by 100 per cent renewable, climate-positive certified electricity that is sourced from wind, hydro, and solar” in Southern Wairarapa, Hauraki, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Tasman, Marlborough, Central Otago.
The two current Wairarapa ChargeNet EV stations are on Dixon St, Masterton and Fitzherbert St, Featherston.
ChargeNet told the Times-Age that although the company won’t be confirming the location for the region’s new charging site for “a few months”, it is likely to be on SH2 and will have four charging points.
“If we want more people to buy EVs, the charging stations need to be there for them. We want to open up the availability of chargers where everyday EV drivers need them most, based on demand,” ChargeNet CEO Danusia Wypych said.
“Our goal is to support EV drivers in their communities and on the open road with multiple charging options, using the insights we have from operating New Zealand’s only nationwide network.”
