Wairarapa College kept their cool in the final quarter to come away with a 55-51 win over Celtic in the premier one championship on Saturday.

Celtic led by two goals after the first and second quarters, but Waicol fought back to lead by one goal going into the final 15 minutes.

Waicol coach Melissa Cullen said the game came down to a couple of turnovers.

“We just said we wanted to stay with them for three-quarters of the match and then if the victory was there and we could stick to our own gameplan, score off our own centre pass and take a couple of theirs, we would come away with the win,” she said.

“It was just the girls playing good sensible netball and not getting into a panic and putting the effort in the whole way through the game.”

Cullen said Kowhai Hohaia was outstanding at wing attack and centre, while year niner Sovia Sabutu was strong at goal defence.

Defending champions Harcourts joined Waicol as the only unbeaten teams with a 67-14 demolition of St Matthew’s, Carterton Red thrashed Gladstone Heat 49-11, and Greytown Holmes Construction moved closer to the top four with a 54-22 thumping of Carterton Legends.
