Carterton Redbacks 27 up and counting

HOCKEY

Comvita Kia Kaha’s dominance of the Wairarapa men’s championship continued with another big win, this time a 5-0 defeat of Old Boys.

Tremaine’s Red Star were the big winners of the round with a 16-0 demolition of JNL, Carterton Vets defeated Dalefield 5-1, and Gladstone Bulls thumped Featherston 8-2.

Kia Kaha lead on 24 points, ahead of the Vets on 21, the Bulls on 18, and Red Star on 12 points.

Gladstone Gold maintained their unbeaten record in women’s division one with a 1-0 win over Dalefield, and Comvita Kia Kaha were 5-0 victors over Featherston.

Gladstone have a nine-point lead, with Red Star, Dalefield and Kia Kaha fighting it out for the other semifinal spots.

In women’s division two, Property Brokers continued their unbeaten run with a 7-1 rout of Eketahuna Tusi, Coasties defeated Martinborough 3-1, Wairarapa Mitsubishi edged Gladstone Heifers 2-1, and the Foxies won the Featherston derby over the Force 9-0.

Property Brokers, Coasties, Foxies, and Heifers hold the top four positions after eight rounds.

FOOTBALL

It’s 27 and counting for Carterton Redbacks as they added another victory to their unbeaten run stretching back to July 2021 in the Wairarapa local football.

The defending champions were made to work hard before securing a 4-1 win over Greytown Property Brokers in the combined division two and three competition.

Second-placed DV Skulls got the better of Greytown Tremains, and Featherston United Property Brokers and Carterton Reapers fought out a 4-4 draw, with the other two games postponed because of ground closures.

Only two games went ahead in division three. Masterton Lions thumped Carterton 6-0, and Martinborough were 6-1 winners of Greytown The Offering.
