Top four teams in premier championship all but sorted

There is little to play for in the final two rounds before the semifinals in the Wairarapa premier one championship with the top four all but determined barring a major upset.

Harcourts, on 32 points, have secured the top spot for the playoffs. They are virtually guaranteed of meeting fourth-placed Celtic [13 points] unless they lose to the struggling Gladstone Gladiators [8 points] in today’s 10am game at the Trust House Wairarapa Netball Centre.

Even then, Gladstone would need to upset Jo Kelly and Co Carterton Maroon and hope that winless Greytown Holmes Construction tip over Celtic in their last round-robin games next week.

The main interest in this week’s round was to be the battle between second-placed Carterton Maroon and Celtic in last night.

Carterton have been one of the form teams in the competition, and Celtic have shown steady improvement with their combinations starting to gel after a slow start to the season.

Defending champions Wairarapa College were to start the hottest of favourites to beat winless Greytown in the 7.30pm game last night.
