Top 10 finishes at cross-country champs

Wairarapa athletes scored five top 10 finishes at the North Island cross-country championships at Taupo on Saturday.

Liam Lamb was third in the men’s Under-20s.

Liam Lamb was third in the highly-competitive men’s Under-20 grade after a 14th placing at the national secondary school championships in Timaru last month.

Lamb completed the 5km course in an impressive 16 minutes and 33.3 seconds, just 15 seconds behind the winner, Russell Green [Hill City University club, Dunedin], and six seconds behind runner-up Gregor Findlay [Wellington Harriers].

Tony Price backed up from his win the national marathon championship in Christchurch in June with a hard-fought second in the men’s Masters 60-64 grade.

Price’s time of 25.08.2 over 6km was one minute behind the winner, Robin Grant [Taranaki].

Andrea Harris was fourth in the Masters women 40-45 age group in 22.33.4 for the 5km, 91 seconds behind the winner, Lindsay Barwick [Wellington Scottish].

Sally Duffy was also fourth in the Masters women 35-39 age group in a time of 21.46.7s for the 5km course.

Jack Lewington also carried on his winning ways from the national secondary school championships with victory in the athletes with a disability men’s grade.

Mackenzie Murray was 25th in the girls Under-16s, and Jacquelyn Murray was 37th in the girls Under-14s.
