Four-team interclub logjam

Carterton Black are through to the Shirley Corlett Trophy final, but who they will play is still up in the air after four teams finished tied at the top of the table on 15 points.

The combination of veteran Matt Spooner and German teenage girl Mara Beyerle defeated Carterton White 2-1 in the final round-robin fixture and qualified with a net sets differential of plus 13.

The other finalist is currently the Martinborough Black pair of Shane Colton and Ed Wilkie, who lost their final fixture 2-1 to Opaki Red. They have the same differential of plus seven as Carterton Maroon but qualify having beaten them in their head-to-head fixture.

The Carterton White team of William Day and Josh Hutchings can still qualify for Saturday’s decider but will need to win their deferred round one doubles match against Opaki Red, which is scheduled to be played early this week, otherwise, their current sets differential of plus six will see them miss out.

In the women’s final Martinborough will play Opaki Red in the final.
