Mark Steventon’s stunning early season form continued with a brilliant unbeaten century in Wairarapa College’s convincing seven-wicket victory over Paraparaumu College in a Wellington Secondary School Premier Two match at Waicol on Tuesday.
Chasing 150 for victory in the 50-over game, Waicol were 12-1 when Steventon came to the crease in the fourth over.
Thirty-eight balls later, the Steventon raised his bat after bringing up his second consecutive century in the competition. He hit 13 fours and seven sixes, including a big hit to bring up three figures, in his score of 108 not out.
Steventon’s century follows his 118 off 60 balls in Waicol’s first-round win over St Patrick’s Silverstream 2nd XI. It also continues his good form from the first part of the year, when he amassed 433 runs at an average of 72.17.
Paraparaumu started Tuesday’s game brightly, and it looked as if Waicol would be chasing a big target with the visitors racing out to 69 off nine overs.
Once seam bowler Zac Vainu grabbed the first wicket, Paraparaumu crumbled to be all out for 149 in the 36th over. Vainu finished with 3-24, and Conley Alexander was the best of the bowlers with 4-21.
Waicol lead the Premier Two competition on 10 points, two ahead of Hutt International Boys, and Tawa College.
Waicol host Kapiti College today in a fourth-round match.
