It was a weekend of mixed results for Giants in the Intercity Championships.
Giants Blue suffered their first loss of the season, going down 3-0 to the unbeaten Cardinals at South Park on Sunday.
Giants stalwart Chris Feary said it was a good game of softball and Cardinals made the best of their limited opportunities in a tight game.
“Cardinals got some good hits at the right times and
the boys couldn’t recover, and the Cardinals pitcher was very good,” Feary said.
Blair Thompson pitched for the Blues on Sunday, his first time on the mound this season, after player-coach Justin ‘Chunky’ Karaitiana split a finger in Saturday’s 4-2 win
over Johnsonville Swingers.
Giants Red suffered their second loss in premier three, going down 6-1 to Tawa away. The Reds were made to pay
for six fielding errors, which the young Tawa side capitalised on, playing the short game
well. In contrast, the Reds’ batting wasn’t in tune and they were unable to move
players around the bases.
The Reds found their batting mojo again on Sunday, cruising to a 9-2 win over Totara Park Gold.
The Giants women showed they will be one of the teams to beat in the Hutt Valley Premier Three Championship. Giants avenged their first-round 15-14 loss to Te Aroha, with a 19-0 thrashing to remain second in the championship standings.
