CYCLING
Aris Scott continued his recent dominance of Tuesday night cycling with a comfortable win in the ACM WIZWireless Double Bridges Rangitūmau Grade Roaded Race.
Twenty-six riders turned out for the race on the Double Bridges – Rangitūmau course, which finished with a gruelling climb to the top of the Kākā Amu Road.
Conditions were nigh perfect with a warm, dry and sunny evening and no wind to speak of and the racing was close across all three grades. The A and C grades stayed together until reaching the base of Rangitūmau, while the B grade developed a split with three riders off the back at the turning point.
Scott pulled away over the final climb to win in a time of 38 minutes 32 seconds, with runner-up Leroux van der Leek one minute behind, and Dave Drummond third.
Josh Duley took out the B Grade in 45:02 from Terry Blackburn and Devan Simmonds, while the C Grade went to Richard Davison in 49:00, with Rex Dowding second and Kirsten Goodin third.
The fastest woman was Belinda Fuller, who finished with a time of 46:10.
