Wairarapa will have two teams in the Wellington Premier One boys’ championship.
Wairarapa College only needed a draw against Rongotai College to qualify. Goals to Brodie Dick and Sam Murray gave them a 2-2 draw and third place in their pool.
Rathkeale needed a big victory over Tawa College, and they achieved that with an 8-0 thumping to qualify ahead of Wellington College on goal difference.
Josh Rudland scored a hat-trick, Jonte Roubos netted two goals, with Oscar James, Oliver Vincent and James Handiside also scoring in the one-sided clash.
The results mean Waicol and Rathkeale will play a home derby which will most likely double as a qualifying game for the national secondary schools tournament.

Rathkeale College got the better of rivals Wairarapa College to win the Wellington Premier boys’ grading round trophy. The 3-2 victory also had them lift the Anear Cup for the
first time.
Waicol finished third in the girls’ Premier grading competition with a 4-1 win over Wellington East Girls’ College in a shootout after the scores were tied 1-1 at fulltime,
St Matthew’s finished their grading matches with a 7-0 thrashing of Queen Margaret College.
RUGBY
Wairarapa College suffered their second narrow loss in the Wellington Premier boys competition, beaten 8-15 by Rongotai College. Although only two games into the competition, the loss puts a dent in Waicol’s prospects of making the top four as they were targeting Rongotai as one of the must-win games.
The bonus point secured sees them in seventh place in the 10-team league.
Waicol will be favoured to win their next game against St Bernard’s College at home at 1pm on Saturday.
St Bernard’s have suffered two heavy losses in the first two matches against Aotea College and Scot’s College.
