Rained off

SUMMER SPORT

Rain and defaults were the order of the day for local sport over the weekend.

Burger King Red Star’s vital clash with Paraparaumu in the Coastal Challenge Cricket Championship at Queen Elizabeth Park Oval was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The washout leaves Red Star needing to win their final two games, probably with bonus points, to sneak into the semifinals.

The Wairarapa Tennis Regional One Interclub fixtures between Opaki and Martinborough last Thursday night, and Carterton and Opaki on Saturday were called off, and are likely to be rescheduled to be played midweek.

The Giants softballers didn’t take to the diamond after their opponents defaulted their games. Premier Two leaders Giants Blue were to play Hutt Valley Marist, and the Reds were to meet Poneke-Kilbirnie in the last round of Premier Three.
