Wairarapa-Bush Rugby Union will make changes next year to draw more players and volunteers into the sport.
The union’s programme will introduce touch rugby options, Quick Rip for adults, Rippa Rugby, school holiday programmes, post-primary programmes, 10-a-side competitions, and a new version of 15s called ‘Game On’ for games below premier rugby.
The union hopes the programme will also attract those who have hung up their boots to return to game.
Officials from New Zealand Rugby and the union presented the framework for Game On at Greytown Rugby Club’s hall last night.
Meanwhile, junior representative rugby teams had mixed results at Memorial Park on Saturday.
The Wairarapa-Bush Under-11s were the only one of the junior teams to come away with a win, holding on for gutsy 34-33 victory over Horowhenua-Kapiti.
The Under-13s were well beaten 7-56 by their Horowhenua-Kapiti counterparts.
The Under-14s hosted Thames Valley and were beaten 36-49.
The Wairarapa-Bush Development Team wrapped up their season with a second heavy loss to Wanganui, going down 19-50 in Whanganui.
