Masterton boxer Griffin Pauling won a top title at the Wellington boxing championships.
Pauling, who boxes out of the Masterton Young Citizens’ Club, won the Open Under-75kg class with two dominant victories at Waikanae last Saturday.
Pauling beat John Parra [Olympic Hope Boxing Club] by knocking him out in the second round and then fought Ijah Allen [Heretaunga] in the final.
Allen was expected to be a sterner challenge but Pauling controlled the fight from the opening round, trainer Daniel Miller said.
Pauling was rarely tested by Allen over the three rounds and the judges unanimously awarded the fight to him.
Two other MYC boxers were beaten at the event.
Kayne Allanson, 10, who was having his first fight, had to move up two weight divisions as there were no other boxers in his class.
He fought a boxer, who had seven previous fights, and lost on a split decision.
Austin Butler fought Toby Brown [Cannons Creek] in the 13-15 cadet 44kg class and also lost on a split decision.
