Jo Kelly and Co Carterton Maroon were the only team with two wins from the first two rounds of premier one grading on Saturday.
Last year’s beaten finalists started with a 12-11 victory over Wairarapa College A, but lost 13-14 to St Matthew’s Collegiate in their next match.
Defending champions Harcourts, and Celtic were unbeaten, having drawn 16-16 in the first round. Harcourts won their second-round clash with Waicol 20-19, and Celtic beat Greytown Holmes Construction 18-16.
Greytown had beaten St Matt’s 13-12 in their first-round encounter.
In premier two games, Martinborough Masters beat Makoura College 16-10 and Opaki Vixens 17-5 to be the only team with two wins.
Opaki Vixens also had a 20-9 win over Waicol B, who bounced back to beat Jo Kelly and Co Carterton Legends 14-12.
Legends did record a victory, 18-10 over their clubmates, Carterton Panthers, who were also beaten 10-16 by Makoura.
This Saturday will have teams play crossover games between the various divisions.
All teams will play two games, which are over four quarters of eight minutes each.
The competition proper starts on Friday night, June 11.
