HOCKEY
St Matthew’s Collegiate beat Wairarapa College 2-0 to win the prized Dunce Cup in their Intercity Secondary Schools match at Clareville last Thursday.
St Matt’s face a strong challenge tonight against Palmerston North Girls’ High School and Waicol play Feilding High School.
In the boys’ division one, Waicol beat Palmerston North Boys’ High School 2XI 3-1, and Rathkeale drew 2-2 with Levin Combined. Waicol and Rathkeale meet tonight.
Kuranui College started boys’ division two with a 1-1 draw with Feilding High School 2XI. They play Whanganui High School tonight.
In the local leagues, Comvita Kia Kaha were pushed hard before retaining their unbeaten record with a 3-2 defeat of Gladstone Bulls. Dalefield Dodgers beat Featherston 6-0, Old Boys and Tremain’s Red Star drew 3-3, and Carterton Vets trounced JNL 20-2.
Dalefield beat Comvita Kia Kaha 6-0 and Tremain’s Red Star were 9-1 victors over Featherston in women’s division one. Coasties, Property Brokers, Martinborough and Gladstone Heifers were winners in division two.
RUGBY
Wairarapa College stayed in the top four in the Wellington Secondary School First XV Championship, despite a 7-59 loss to unbeaten Scots College last Saturday. Waicol next play HIBS away. Both teams are third equal on 18 points.
Rathkeale have a tough away encounter in the Central North Island Championship against Wesley College in Pukekohe.
FOOTBALL
Rathkeale suffered their first loss in the Wellington Secondary Schools Premier Division, losing 1-2 to leaders Scots College. Rathkeale play Wellington College at Trust House Memorial Park tomorrow night.
