Josh McMenamin’s scoring spree continued in GasPro Douglas Villa’s 9-0 thumping of Brooklyn Northern United at the Parks Sports Ground on Saturday.
McMenamin found the back of the net five times, giving him nine goals in the past two games and taking his season tally to 12 goals from five games.
Despite the one-sided scoreline, Douglas Villa coach Dan Pawson said it took a while for the team to get used to the conditions.
“The pitch was very soft and slow, and after playing on an artificial turf last week, it took a while to find our feet,” he said.
Once into their stride, Douglas Villa dominated and built a five-goal lead at halftime.
The rout continued in the second half as the home side stretched their unbeaten run to 43 consecutive matches, dating back to April 2018.
Marcus Logan, with two goals, Kurtis Paine, and Anthony Sprowson also scored.
Despite the comprehensive win, Pawson said the team were still not playing to their full potential.
“We’re tracking okay, our fitness is getting better every week, and we’re improving with every game.”
Douglas Villa are away to Petone Stonecutters on Saturday, and Pawson was confident of getting more points on the road before a key home game against leaders Waterside-Karori the following weekend.
Douglas Villa are in second place on 15 points, one point behind but with a game in hand on Waterside.
