Ten teams from around the Wellington region will contest the Squash Wellington D Grade Super Champs at Masterton Squash Club this weekend.
There will be good chance of success in the men’s D Grade with three of the six teams from Wairarapa.
Masterton, Red Star, and Martinborough will be joined by teams from Island Bay, Mana, and Upper Hutt.
The women’s D Grade features teams from Masterton, Red Star, Mana, and Thorndon.
The teams will play round-robin games tonight and Saturday. The playoffs and finals will be played on Sunday.
The three Wairarapa clubs have worked together to ensure the region is represented in as many grades as possible.
Martinborough president Jackie Steventon, Red Star club captain Nat Lane, and Masterton president Hayley Wilton have been instrumental in this process and as a result the three clubs have combined to field teams in the Wellington District Super Champs.
Masterton will contest the men’s B Grade to be played at Kapiti, the Red Star women and Martinborough men will line up in the C Grade at Mana, and Masterton and Martinborough will have teams in the men’s E Grade at Otaki.
Each team can consist of up to seven players, with only five players able to play in each fixture.
The winning team from each of the competitions will qualify to play in the National Super Champs at the end of September.
