Blue skies and warmer weather contributed to participants’ good form at Sunday’s Love Tennis event at the Masterton Tennis Centre, which catered to new and experienced players, and provided fun games for all ages. Winning the celebrity doubles match by just a whisker were new Trust House chief executive John Prendergast and Masterton deputy mayor Bex Johnson, who defeated parliamentary candidates Mike Butterick [National] and Celia Wade-Brown [Greens] in a 13–11 tiebreaker. [Initially, the match was to feature Wairarapa MP Kieran McAnulty and Act candidate Simon Casey competing against their election rivals, but both candidates had to pull out due to other commitments. Masterton Mayor Gary Caffell presented a $50 voucher to Carterton’s Peter Bradshaw for correctly guessing the final score. PHOTOS/REBECCA KING
