A Lansdowne team have scored probably the lowest total in Wairarapa in more than a century.

The team playing Carterton in an Umpires Cup match at Carterton on Saturday were dismissed for 10 runs.

Playing with 10 players, only three of Lansdowne’s batsmen troubled the scorers with Cameron Lee-Mallard getting five of the runs. The first four wickets fell before a run was scored.

Jarrod Woods took five wickets for seven runs and Adrian Blomfield picked up 4-2.

Carterton took one over to knock off the total, with Tim Griffith finishing on 14 not out.

It would appear that one must go back at least a century to find two lower scores, and on both occasions the Carterton club was involved.

The Wairarapa Cricket Centenary Book records that the Carterton Seniors playing Masterton B on January 12, 1908, got their opponents out for six runs. Extras totalled two and there were no less than 10 ducks. W Gallon captured 6-1 and Ticehurst 4-3.

Archie Dixon and CW Walker, playing for the Masterton Hockey Club’s junior team against Carterton in the 1912-13 season, dismissed Carterton for three runs, one of which was a bye. Dixon took 7-1 and Walker 3-1.

In other Umpires Cup matches over the weekend, Rathkeale maintained their unbeaten record by beating Pope and Gray Greytown by 10 wickets.

Medium pacer Gus Borren captured 5-17 runs as Greytown were dismissed for 117.

Openers John McKenzie and Jake Jonas made no race of the chase, reaching the target in 14.1 overs.

McKenzie was 72 not out and Jonas 37 not out.

An unbeaten century by Richard Morrison led Auto Imports Marist to a seven-wicket defeat of Red Star and kept their unbeaten record intact.

Tim Burling led the way for Red Star with 78 in their total of 190. That proved no match for Marist who passed the total with more than eight overs to spare, with Morrison 103 not out.

A consistent batting effort set up Wairarapa Mitsubishi Greytown for a comfortable 115-run win over Unreal Grass Marist.

Alastair ‘Tora’ Boyne, with 37, and Hamish Cunliffe, with 30, were best of the Greytown batsmen as they amassed 170.

Anthony Gibbons took 4-15 as Marist were rolled for 55.
