Five Wairarapa Korus were in the Central Districts side that won the NZ Cricket under-19 Women’s tournament played in Christchurch over the past week.

All-rounder Ocean Bartlett captained the team, which included Elizabeth Cohr, Emma McLeod, Olivia Clark, and Macy Lyford. Opening batter Jess Hollard, who plays representative cricket for Taranaki, also has a local connection, having been a member of the St Matthew’s Collegiate team that finished second at last season’s Gillette Venus Cup secondary school tournament.

Bartlett was one of the standouts for CD in their four victories from five 50-over games, and in winning their only T20 clash. She took 12 wickets at an average of 10.25, with a best return of 3-23 in the opening match against Auckland. After starting strongly with the bat, with 46 against Auckland, and 39 against Otago, Bartlett struggled for runs in the remaining four games.

Cohr also impressed with the ball, taking eight wickets at an average of 12.50, and best figures of 3-11 in the win over Otago.

McLeod opened the batting with Hollard, and produced three good scores – 48 against Wellington, 34 against Canterbury, and 27 against Otago.

Macy Lyford’s best effort with the bat was 19 not out in the second-round win over Otago, while Clark’s best bowling had her take 2-26 in the same match.

CD had wins over Auckland, Otago, Canterbury, and Wellington, and a loss to Northern Districts in the one-day games, while they finished the tournament with a resounding defeat of Otago in Wednesday’s T20 clash.
