DRAGON BOATING
The Wairarapa Dragon Boat Club recognised long-standing secretary Julie Muir with a special presentation of the inaugural Wendy Dymond Memorial Cup at the club’s open day at Henley Lake on Sunday.
The trophy was presented by the family of the late Wendy Dymond, who was an enthusiastic and valuable member of the club until she died two years ago.
Dymond was a breast cancer survivor and was the first person to sign up to join the club.
Her daughters Annie and Amy presented the trophy to Muir, who had been nominated by the club members.
Club chairwoman Lindy Daniell said Muir had been secretary for 10 years, had shown a commitment to paddling and training, always supported the needs of the team, was a real team player, displayed a positive and uplifting attitude, and gave 100 per cent for the team.
The club have two boats for training every Sunday from 2.30pm, and from 3.30pm when daylight saving starts.
Daniell said the club are recruiting men and women from 12 years of age, as well as breast cancer survivors.
