Juniors make impression at age group championships

Brad Goldsworthy and Mackenzie Tait were the best performed Wairarapa junior squash players at the North Island age group championships played in Hastings and Havelock North last weekend.

Goldsworthy was third in the Under-19 boys as was Tait in the Under-13 girls.

Goldsworthy came up against eventual winner Temwa Chilleshe in the semifinals where he beaten in straight games 9-11 3-11 3-11.

He went on to beat Kahn Grayson in the third-fourth playoff in five tough games.

Tait was also in outstanding form and progressed to the semifinals.

She lost a tight match against Ella Hill 9-11 9-11 11-9 4-11.

She then beat Aria Bannister in four games in the third-fourth playoff.

Chelsea Hawkes finished with a fifth placing in the girls’ Under-15 division.

Hunter Wyeth was fifth in the Under-17 Boys.

Mark Steventon also competed in the Under-17 boys, finishing sixth.

Claudia Hawkes was seventh in the girls Under-17 grade.
