The Holmes Construction Infernos are the only unbeaten team after two rounds of the Wairarapa T20 franchise women’s league.
The Infernos had an easy seven-wicket victory over Plumbing World Sapphires in the second round of matches played at Wairarapa College on Wednesday night.
Batting first, the Sapphires struggled to get any momentum in their innings and were tied down by accurate Infernos’ bowling. They battled through to 70 all out off 13.1 overs.
Medium pacer Olivia Roseingrave was the best of the bowlers with 2-8 off two overs.
Off spinner Macy Lyford then had the Infernos in early trouble, picking up three wickets in her first two overs, to have them at 14-3.
An unbeaten 58-run fourth wicket partnership between Elizabeth Cohr [27 not out] and Kayarna Dennes-Jones [28 not out] saw the Infernos score the winning runs in 11 overs.
Meanwhile, a 130-run opening partnership between Ocean Bartlett and Sophie McNab set up the Shoe Clinic Fury’s 51-run win over Lone Star Meteors.
Bartlett retired on 58 and McNab scored a patient 45 off 57 balls, including seven fours.
Melissa Hansen [26] and Gemma Sims [28] gave the Meteors some hope, putting on 62 for the second wicket.
But once Gemma Sims was bowled with the score at 63, the Meteors lost their way to be all out for 108. Kate Sims was the only other batter to make double figures, being the last wicket to fall for 23.
Slow bowler Sian Wheeler and medium pacer Gracie Donaldson took three wickets each for the Fury.
