Holter to attend leadership programme

FOOTBALL

Capital Football has nominated Greytown Football Club president Jo Holter to attend a women’s national leadership programme in Auckland.

Holter was instrumental in starting a Wairarapa women’s league and plays for the Umbrella Group Greytown Gems. She took over as president of Greytown FC in late 2022 and believes the club serves a valuable role in the Greytown community in making football accessible to people of all abilities.

The Ford Women in Football Leadership Programme has been designed for women involved in the administration of football and is structured around NZ Football’s key strategy of enriching more lives through football and strengthening capability and leadership across women’s football.

Holter is excited to be given the opportunity and said, “I’m looking forward to bringing what I learn back to help grow football in the community.”

MULTISPORT

Professional triathlete Scott Harpham showed a clean pair of heels to his opponents, powering away for a comfortable win in the Wairarapa Multi Sports Club’s Mountain Duathlon last Saturday.

Competing for the first time in the gruelling event based at Mt Holdsworth, Harpham cut out the long course race, comprising a 45km cycle, 12km mountain run, and 21.3km cycle in two hours, 55 minutes and 20.6 seconds, more than eight minutes clear of runners-up, the team of Sam Jury and Hamish Hammond, with the second individual Hayden Smith third.

The first woman home over the long course was Hannah Fletcher in 3hrs 29:58.3, followed by Georgia Cassidy.

Short course honours went to veteran Masterton triathlete Gavin Champion in 1hr 39:21.4, only 15 seconds ahead of Destry Gourlay.
