The harriers will be one of the first sports activities back in action with Athletics and Cycling Masterton to hold an organised run on Sunday morning.

At this time of the year, ACM would usually be about halfway through their cross-country series, however the covid-19 pandemic resulted in the cancellation of the series and curtailed their interclub competitions.

ACM Harriers organiser Carol McDonald said the run would start from the clubrooms at Colin Pugh Sports Bowl at 10am on Sunday.

“There will be no grades and no handicaps, and we will probably have a 2km run, a 4-5km run and maybe something a bit longer,” she said.

“It will be pretty informal, and there will be no morning tea afterwards.”

McDonald was confident the club would have some cross-country races over the winter.

“The season will look a lot different. We will probably do four runs from the clubrooms, and there will be some cross-country with our next run in a fortnight at Tom Lett’s farm at Taueru.”

“We also hope to have Rangitumau and Rewanui, and finish with the club champs on July 26,” McDonald said.

There is also the prospect of some interclub events being held, with Athletics Wellington working on a draft programme.

It is likely that it will incorporate interclub events already scheduled after racing resumes, such as the Dorne Cup and the Wellington cross-country championships, while past events including the popular Vosselar Shield are unlikely to be rescheduled.
