Greytown under-13s have big win

Greytown under-13s scored a commanding 51-14 win over their Martinborough counterparts in the latest round of Wairarapa-Bush JAB rugby matches.
Up 24-7 at halftime Greytown maintained the pressure in the second spell and among the standouts were try-scorers Willie Matthews, Toby Crosby, Joseph Hall and Erland Roberts.
The Greytown under-11s played under lights against Marist at Memorial Park and after an even first half they dominated the second to win 33-17. Several impressive tries were scored, including those by Daniel Oldroyd, William Cole, Gabriel Davidson and Tim Parker.
In the under-11 grade Greytown were beaten by Gladstone while the under-9s met Featherston and snuck home 3-2 and the under-8s went down to Martinborough 4-8 with players of the day being Riley Collins and Max Mullen.
The under-6 Greytown rippers showed great determination and running skills when they strutted their stuff on their home ground. Players of the day were Haami Telford and Orlagh Holden.
Playing in the mud didn’t stop the Gladstone under-6 teams from enjoying themselves with player of the day awards going to Quin Carlsen and Olivia Orsborn and most improved player awards to Charlie James and Milo Wildy.
The Gladstone Black under-8s went down to both East Coast and Marist Purple with player of the day being Bart Tomlin who was tireless on defence. Kit Oliver, who won the “most effort” award, also tackled strongly.
There were two good wins for the Gladstone Gold under-8s, against Carterton Maroon 5-1 and Marist White 3-1.
Player of the day was William Orsborn and most improved Tom Falloon.
In the under-9 grade Gladstone were well beaten in the mud by Masterton Red Star although Max Hintz made a big impression with his graft and tackling, as did Harry Oliver.
Gladstone under-10s had another big win over Greytown 24-1 with player of the day being Charlie Ferguson and Dylan Corlett the recipient of the “most effort” prize, while the under-11s went from 12-12 at halftime to beat Martinborough 38-12. Jonty Maunsell scored four tries and was player of the day and Louis Oliver worked hard all game.
The Gladstone under-13s had a tough battle against Masterton Red Star White and although Gladstone lifted their game in the second half they were beaten 31-5. Player of the day was Thomas Leske.
