Fowlds, Miller take honours

There were new winners in the fourth race of the Wairarapa Times-Age 5 km running series, organised by Athletics and Cycling [ACM] Masterton last Sunday.

Finn Fowlds was first of the runners home, completing the riverbank course in 19 minutes 15 seconds, with Andrew Hayes second and James Goodger third.

The first female home and ninth overall was Izzy Miller in 23min 8sec, from Vicky Paine and Sally Duffy.

Jack Chu led home the 2km race in 8min 34sec ahead of Sophie Miller and Jack Gard’ner.

There was another extremely good attendance with 109 finishers.

The next race in the series is on March 12 and will be sponsored by Ladymead Kennels. The event starts at 9am at the ACM clubrooms at the Sports Bowl.

Dowding in front

CYCLING

Rex Dowding took line honours in a small field that turned out for the ACM WIZWireless Whangaehu-Bideford handicap road race on Tuesday.

Dowding, who started in the Break 3 group for the 30km race, crossed the finish line with a handicap time of one hour five minutes 29 seconds, edging out Steve Hannam with Sam Jury third,m who had the fastest race time of 53min 10sec.

The fastest woman was Belinda Fuller, with a race time of 57min 40sec.

The short course race was won by Gita Van der Leek in 37min 34sec.

The next race on Tuesday is a fun event at the Masterton Motorplex with a barbecue and cold beverage afterwards.
