Wairarapa tennis star Marcus Daniell and his Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof were head into their first round Wimbledon match last night in a confident frame of mind.
Daniell and Koolhof are both ranked in the top 50 players in the world when it comes to doubles, while their opponents are both outside the top 100.
They were to play the Indian pair of Vishnu Vardhan [107] and Sriram Balaji [110] in the first round, but things could get much tougher if they win and advance to the second round.
Their likely opponent for that match would be the No 14 seeds, Japan’s Ben McLachlan and Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff.
It will be Daniell and Koolhof’s first grand slam tournament together after they competed in their first tournament as a pair at the Queen’s grass court event a couple of weeks ago.
